The time required between each colored belt are:
from white to yellow: 1 month
from yellow to black belt: 2 months minimum.
The minimum number of classes per week is 2 or 8 classes per month. The maximum is left to the individual student, it could be anywhere up to 80 classes per month. An average student would take about 2 years to be eligible to for the Black Belt Test.
We have eliminated all colored belt testing as from June 1, 1996. For
more details, please refer to our article "Forbidden Subject."
From 1999, Koo Self Defense offers 2 types of training programs:
Belt Program and NO Belt Program (which is unique to Koo Self Defense).
The difference being on the 'belt program', there is goal setting just like all other martial arts systems.
Whereas the students who enrols on the NO belts programs learn exactly the same curriculum as those on the belt program but has nothing to show for it in term of belts. They are there for pure workouts ie: to get fit, healthy and learn all aspects of street self defense.

Comments: Master Roger Koo is great! You get your total workout in just one hour. Its amazing! Master Koo teaches you to knock out your opponent before they can do anything. It also helps you in your mind and your spirit. Also all the people at koo self defense are very nice to you. Master Koo does not tell people that they can't do a move. He tells them that they can do it if they believe they can. It not only helps you learn moves for self defense, but it also helps you in school. Koo self defense is the most amazing workout I have ever participated in. If you were to ask me if KSD is fun, I would say absolutely fantastic. Thanks Master Koo for all I have learned so far!!
